UDP will never be divided into Two-says Darboe

Ousainou Darboe, the Secretary General of United Democratic Party (UDP) has stressed that the UDP will never be divided into two.

“There was no UDP in 2016, likewise there was only UDP in 1996, I am not desperate to be President of the Gambia… but any person, no matter what is your designation, whosoever wants to divide the UDP, I am ready and prepared to lock horn with the fellow because I am elected to lead and protect the UDP,” he told thousands of UDP militants during their two days congress to elect new executives.

The UDP congress kicked-off on Friday and ended on Sunday with election of 33 executive members to steer the affairs of the party in the next two years.

According to him, the UDP was founded on the principles of good governance and democracy, which are bigger than anyone member of the party.

Darboe also said that the UDP leadership stands ready to hand over power to the young people within the party structure.

He stressed that they will not hand over power to anyone whose election is not in the interest of the Gambia populace.

Darboe, whose position as Secretary General went on unopposed and it was maintained that there is no one who will dispute the fact that Adama Barrow is the President of The Gambia and there is no one also as well, to dispute the fact that he, Ousainou Darboe, is the Leader of the United Democratic Party.
