FIOH Trains Farmers on Processing, Preservation Technique

Future in Our Hand an International NGO has trained forty [40] farmers on sustainable food preservation techniques to enhance increase production and productivity in Kerr Ardo in the North Bank Region.

The training been first of its kind was aim to empower farmers with requisite skills and knowledge on value addition on crop and vegetables to address post-harvest loss.

The five-day training also attracted a number of both men and women around the community and its surrounding villages.

Meanwhile, grinding machine was also provided to the community to supporting promoting skill acquisition and develops self-reliance in attaining household food security.

Speaking at the training Halimatou Marong, programme officer at FIOH assured her agency would support to farmers in NBR on food processing and preservation techniques.

“This would help to bring about sustainable livelihood development and contribute to poverty reduction,” he said.

Fatou Drammeh, a  lead trainer echoed similar sentiment and call on producers to attached great important to value addition of farm produce, through adoption of skills and knowledge with the ultimate aim to increase income and reduce post-harvest loss.

She described the training as timely and that it would help to empower water melon farmers to adopt skills to add value to production.

Salifu Saho, chairman of Kerr Ardo Village Development Committee commended FIOH for supporting his community with capacity building.

He said the training would bring about behavior change among producers to reduce post-harvest loss and add income.
