Leader of the opposition National Democratic Party (NDP), Kebba Madi Bojang, has expressed confidence that opposition parties stand a strong chance of defeating the incumbent government in The Gambia’s forthcoming presidential election.
Speaking at a mega rally held on Saturday at the Buffer Zone, Bojang attributed his optimism to what he described as growing unity among opposition parties.
He said nation-building should not be based on political witch-hunts, but rather on dialogue, constructive engagement and the exchange of ideas aimed at addressing national challenges.
“Opposition parties have good intentions for this country. I am confident that we are going to defeat the incumbent,” Bojang told supporters at the rally.
The NDP leader said that if elected, his party would prioritize key sectors including healthcare, agriculture and education.
He said an NDP administration would invest in training young Gambians in health-related skills, support farmers and transform the education system to make it more practical and responsive to national needs.
Bojang criticized the government’s approach to appointments, arguing that some individuals were placed in positions without adequate knowledge or expertise to effectively deliver on their responsibilities.
“This government continues to misplace priorities. They appoint people to positions where they have little or no knowledge. That cannot develop our country,” he said.
The opposition leader also challenged the government to demonstrate greater transparency in the fight against corruption.
He questioned what he described as the government’s focus on the acquisition of official vehicles, while security personnel continue to face transportation challenges in carrying out their duties.
Meanwhile, Gambia is expected to hold its next presidential election on December 5th 2026.
