Gambian champions Medina United FC have been drawn against Sierra Leone’s Star Sport Academy in the preliminary round of the 2026 CAF Club Championship, following the draw conducted on Thursday.
The Gambian side will begin their maiden continental campaign with an away fixture in Freetown, Sierra Leone, before hosting the return leg on home soil.
The first leg of the two-match encounter is scheduled for the first week of September 2026 in Freetown, with the second leg expected to be played in The Gambia a few days later.
The tie marks a historic milestone for Medina United FC, who will make their first appearance in African club competition after clinching the 2025/26 Gambia Football Federation (GFF) First Division League title.
Club President and management have expressed confidence in the team’s readiness for the continental challenge, while calling on supporters, sponsors and the wider Gambian football fraternity to rally behind the club as it represents The Gambia on the African stage.
The club’s participation is seen as another significant step in the growth of Gambian football, with Medina United aiming to make a strong impression in their debut campaign.
