Mayamba FA and Dego FC have secured places in the semi-finals of the Essau Youth Sports Development Association Newettan after winning their respective quarter-final matches.
Mayamba FA eliminated Essau Central 4-1 on penalties after the two sides played to a goalless draw in regulation time.
The quarter-final lived up to expectations as both teams displayed determination and resilience, but neither could find the breakthrough during the 90 minutes.
Mayamba FA goalkeeper Sheikh Jawo emerged as the hero of the shootout, making two crucial saves to help his side secure victory and advance to the last four.
In the other quarter-final, Dego FC edged competition debutants North Star 1-0.
Pa Modou Mannweh scored the decisive goal in the 65th minute from the penalty spot to give Dego FC the lead.
North Star pushed for an equaliser but Dego FC held on to secure the victory and end the debutants’ impressive run in the competition.
The two victories set the stage for the semi-final matches, with Mayamba FA and Dego FC now one step closer to the championship title.
