Gambian youngster Salieu Drammeh is set to join Belgian top-flight side Standard Liège after completing a €2.5 million transfer from Norwegian club SK Lillestrøm, in another major move for Gambian football on the European stage.
The transfer package is reportedly worth €2.2 million in guaranteed fees, with an additional €300,000 in performance-related bonuses, bringing the total value of the deal to approximately €2.5 million.
Drammeh is expected to undergo a medical examination before signing a four-year contract that will keep him at the Belgian club until 2029. The transfer is expected to be officially confirmed once the final procedures are completed.
The move follows an impressive spell with SK Lillestrøm, where the Gambian prospect established himself as one of the club’s key performers. His pace, technical ability, discipline and maturity contributed significantly to the Norwegian side’s successful promotion campaign back to the Eliteserien, the country’s top division.
The youngster’s consistent performances attracted interest from several European clubs, but Standard Liège secured his services as part of their continued investment in emerging talents.
The Belgian club, one of the country’s most historic sides, has a reputation for developing young players and providing a pathway to Europe’s major leagues.
Drammeh’s move represents a significant step in his career as he looks to continue his development in the Belgian Pro League, a competition that has provided opportunities for many African players seeking to establish themselves in European football.
The transfer further highlights the growing presence of Gambian footballers in Europe and reflects the country’s continued ability to produce talented players capable of competing at the highest level.
