The Ministry of Youth and Sports has approved D10 million to support The Gambia Senior Men’s National Volleyball Team ahead of its participation in the 2026 CAVB Men’s African Volleyball Nations Championship in Tunisia.
The continental championship is scheduled for Sept. 13 to 26 and will bring together some of Africa’s leading volleyball nations.
The financial support follows The Gambia’s historic qualification for the tournament after defeating Senegal 3-2 in the Zone II final held in Banjul in June.
The Ministry has also introduced match-win bonuses for players and members of the technical team during the championship.
According to the initiative, members of the squad and technical staff will receive financial incentives for every match won in the tournament.
President of the Gambia Volleyball Federation, Bai Dodou Jallow, welcomed the government’s support and described it as an important development for Gambian volleyball.
He called on Gambians at home and abroad to support the national team as it prepares to compete in Tunisia.
The Gambia will be making its appearance at the continental championship following its qualification through the Zone II competition.
