President Adama Barrow has held discussions with the Assistant Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakhit Saleh, on The Gambia’s role in advancing the Rohingya case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The discussions took place in Jeddah, where President Barrow, in his capacity as Chair of the OIC Summit, sought an update on pledges made by OIC member states towards supporting the legal case concerning the Rohingya crisis.
According to a statement from State House, the meeting also reviewed contributions from member countries and explored ways of strengthening support for the initiative.
Ambassador Saleh commended The Gambia’s role as an important OIC member state and recognised the country’s efforts in introducing initiatives to support the organisation’s agenda, including the Climate Solidarity Initiative.
The two officials further discussed strategies to advance the OIC’s priorities, with President Barrow requesting guidance from the Secretariat on identifying short-term initiatives while developing medium- and long-term plans.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by The Gambia, under President Barrow’s leadership of the OIC Summit, to promote collective action among member states on issues of common concern.
