The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has rejected an attempt by its former leader, Kebba Jallow, to represent the party in an alliance with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).
PPP Secretary General and Party Leader Ousman Madikay Faal described the development as “regretful, misleading and shameful”, insisting that Jallow no longer has the authority to speak on behalf of the party.
In a video broadcast on the PPP’s official social media page on Monday, Faal said Jallow had already been expelled from the party and accused him of misrepresenting himself as an authorised representative of the PPP.
He said the former party leader’s actions risked misleading the public and undermining the integrity of the office of the President.
Faal called on President Adama Barrow and the NPP to publicly condemn what he described as Jallow’s “deliberate and self-interested” conduct and to hold him accountable.
“We would also like to remind the President and NPP that the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) officially and publicly recognised me as the duly elected party leader since December 2024,” Faal said.
He argued that, in view of the IEC’s recognition, Jallow should not have been granted an audience by the presidency to make statements purporting to represent the PPP without authorisation from the party’s recognised leadership.
Faal also called for an immediate prime-time public clarification by the media, stressing that the PPP was not aligned with the NPP.
He accused Jallow of attempting to create division, confuse the public and promote himself by presenting himself as a representative of the PPP.
The PPP leader’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions among Gambian political parties over possible alliances ahead of the 2026 presidential election.
