Police Suspend Road Show Permits Nationwide

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has announced the temporary suspension of all road show permits nationwide, with immediate effect and until further notice.

According to a statement dated 26 January 2026, the decision follows a comprehensive review of public safety, traffic management and security concerns linked to road show activities.

The GPF noted that recent assessments revealed that road shows increasingly pose risks to pedestrians, motorists and other road users, while also obstructing the free flow of traffic and, in some cases, hindering emergency response services and the maintenance of public order.

As a result, no approval will be granted for road shows during the suspension period. The ban covers all forms of road-based promotional activities, including mobile promotions, street parades and similar events conducted on public roads, highways and open public spaces.

The police said the suspension will allow relevant authorities to reassess existing guidelines, strengthen coordination mechanisms and review safety and regulatory frameworks to ensure that future road show activities are conducted in a manner that prioritizes public safety and the lawful use of public spaces.

The GPF urged individuals, organizations and event promoters to comply strictly with the directive, warning that any unauthorized road show carried out during the suspension period will be considered unlawful and dealt with in accordance with the law.
