A woman from Bakoteh on Tuesday appeared before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
Jainaba Faye was alleged to have poured hot oil on her employee, inflicting serious injuries.
The accused was arraigned before Magistrate Awa Manneh on a charge preferred under Section 196 of the Criminal Offences Act, relating to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Prosecutors told the court that the incident occurred on January 20, 2026, in Bakoteh, within the Kanifing Municipality. It is alleged that Faye unlawfully assaulted Mam Jarra Jarjue by pouring hot oil on her face, causing injuries.
Inspector Kebbeh, representing the Inspector General of Police, read the charge to the accused who denied the allegation. Jainaba insisted that she did not pour hot oil on the complainant.
The magistrate then entered a plea of “not guilty” on her behalf.
Following the plea taking, the prosecution applied for an adjournment to enable it to secure its first witness. The application was granted.
The court admitted the accused to bail in the sum of D300,000 with three Gambian sureties, each required to deposit valid national identification cards or passports with the court registrar.
The case was adjourned to February 11, 2026, for the prosecution to open its case.
