The leader of opposition United Democratic Party (UDP), Ousainou Darboe, has been elected as flag bearer of the party for the 2026 presidential election.
Shortly following his reelection as flag bearer, Darboe addressed and preached the need for discipline among his supporters. He tasked party militants to embrace discipline as society demands the preservation of sanity in the country. “Indisciplined youths can never grow a good and vibrant society. So, be disciplined in both behaviors and words,” he advised.
The veteran politician continued his address: “You must refrain from castigating and caricaturing people. You must respect your leaders. You must respect your elders. Otherwise, our society will crumble.”
He pointed out that his re-election wouldn’t have been done without the support of the people, and that the burden is now on the young people, stating that they are the ones on social media and must refrain from making false allegations against people.
Meanwhile, Darboe won through internal party primary elections against Borry S. Touray and Amadou Sanneh, who made it to the final selection with him.
