The acting Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GambiaPolice Force (GPF), Cadet Inspector Sainabou Manjang, has disclosed that investigation showed that the 57-year-oldBelgian national, who died at Brufut Heights earlier this month, had committed suicide.
Inspector Manjang told The Voice that Eric Frans T. De Lucke committed suicide in his rented apartment at Brufut Heights.
According to her, Eric Frans T. De Lucke telephoned one of his friends outside the country and gave him goodbye message, stating that the deceased also telephoned one of his close German friends, Ronny Schonfeld, residing in Brufutbefore his death.
When contacted on Sunday morning for more information, regarding Frans’ death, PRO Manjang explained that when Ronny Schonfeld reached the deceased’s apartment, he knocked on the door but there was no response and he realized that Frans locked the door inside.
”Ronny Schonfeld reported the matter at Brufut Anti-Crime Unit but when they reached Frans’ apartment, they had to break the door because it was locked,” she further explained.
The acting police mouthpiece said when the police investigators broke the deceased’s door, they found him hanged on a rope with scratches on his neck, stating that the deceased placed a note that was written in Dutch language before his death.
Cadet Inspector Manjang said after the police investigatorsarrested and cautioned the neighbours of the deceased, they realized that there was no foul-play.
She further stated that “police are still investigating” the cause of Eric Frans T. De Lucke’s death as they also expect a medical report.
She affirmed that the GPF remain committed to ensuring public safety and security of the population.
Meanwhile, it would be recalled that the 57-year-old Belgian national Eric Frans T. De Lucke on 9 November 2024,between the hours of 12:30pm and 1:15pm allegedly committed suicide in his rented apartment at Brufut Heights.
