Gambian international midfielder Abubakr Barry has completed a permanent transfer from Austrian Bundesliga club Austria Wien to champions RB Salzburg.
RB Salzburg signed the 24-year-old on a three-year contract in a deal reported to be worth about €3.5 million, including performance-related bonuses.
Barry joins Salzburg after an impressive spell with Austria Wien, where he established himself as a regular in midfield.
The move will see the Gambian international join one of Austria’s most successful clubs, which regularly competes in European competitions.
Barry is expected to strengthen Salzburg’s midfield ahead of the new season as the club prepares to defend its domestic title and compete in Europe.
The transfer represents another milestone for Gambian football, with an increasing number of the country’s players securing moves to clubs in Europe’s top leagues.
Barry has been a member of The Gambia’s national team and is regarded as one of the country’s leading midfielders.
