Newly promoted Medina United have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 GFF 1XBET Vista Bank-Baluwo Men’s Division One League, becoming the first club to win The Gambia’s top-flight title in their debut season following promotion from the Second Division.
Medina United secured the championship in dramatic fashion with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a stoppage-time goal by forward Adama Kanteh, popularly known as “De Bruyne”.
Kanteh scored in the second minute of added time after being set up by Yusupha Catty. The striker rounded a defender and goalkeeper Alagie Saikou Kassama before calmly slotting the ball into the net to spark celebrations among the club’s supporters.
The goal marked Kanteh’s second consecutive match-winning strike in stoppage time and ensured Medina United finished the season at the top of the standings.
Fortune FC converted a penalty in the 90th minute of their own fixture, but the result was insufficient to prevent Medina United from claiming the league title after an impressive campaign.
Despite missing out on the championship, Gambia Ports Authority goalkeeper Alagie Saikou Kassama ended the season with 18 clean sheets, setting a new record in the GFF Division One League.
At the bottom of the table, Steve Biko and Samger were relegated to the GFF Second Division, while TMT FC will compete in a relegation play-off to determine their status for next season.
