The race for promotion and survival in the GFF-APS Wallet Men’s Second Division League intensified on Saturday as Week 28 produced 14 goals across eight matches.
League leaders Colley Stars FC extended their lead at the top of the table to two points after a 1-1 draw with Unique Global FC at the Ousman Saho Football Field in Yundum.
Unique Global FC took the lead through Muhammed Kassama, who headed home from a cross by Famara Jabang, before Colley Stars FC equalised through Ebou Jatta, who converted a free-kick to secure a point for the leaders.
In Gunjur, Gunjur United FC boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 comeback win over second-placed Kanifing East FC.
Kanifing East FC led through Alagie Mama Bah in the 30th minute, but Gunjur United FC responded through Kebba Sambou and Bubacarr Bojang to secure a vital three points.
Menmar Banjul United FC continued their strong form with a 2-1 win over Gambia Armed Forces FC in Brikama.
Yunusa Ceesay and Malick Jangum scored for Menmar Banjul United FC, while Abdoulie Joof netted for Gambia Armed Forces FC.
At Kerr Jatta, Wallidan FC defeated North Star FC 1-0 after a goalkeeping error allowed Mustapha Camara to score the decisive goal in the 63rd minute.
Baalor Sarr FC edged Marimoo Pakfood FC 1-0 at the Dimphy’s Memorial Football Complex in Fabara Bantang, with Emmanuel Joof scoring the only goal of the match.
AJ Soccer FC also recorded a narrow 1-0 win over RS Tallinding FC, courtesy of a 61st-minute strike from Abubacarr Sanneh at the Soma Mini Stadium.
Serrekunda United FC earned a 2-1 away victory over Elite United FC at the Live Your Dreams Academy Field in Basori, with goals from Muhammed Ceesay and Alagie Ceesay.
Elite United FC replied through Ebrima Ceesay.
Serrekunda FC and Wagadu FC played out a goalless draw at the Bakau Mini Stadium.
The final fixture of the round will see Suwo Kono FC host Sibanor United FC at the Soma Mini Stadium.
Following the weekend results, Colley Stars FC lead the 18-team table with 53 points, two ahead of Kanifing East FC on 51 points, while Baalor Sarr FC sit third with 45 points.
At the bottom, Gunjur United FC and Suwo Kono FC are level on 28 points, with Serrekunda FC bottom on 24 points as the relegation battle continues.
