The Gambia Police Force Thursday confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old Senegalese national allegedly found in possession of fourteen rounds of ammunition.
Amadou Bamba Ceesay was arrested as the police were on a routine night patrol in the border town of Amdalai, North Bank Region.
According to police sources, officers attached to the Regional Task Force in Barra arrested the suspect on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, at a brothel in the area.
The suspect, identified as Amadou Bamba Ceesay, was reportedly found with fourteen rounds of ammunition in his possession at the time of his arrest.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect claimed to be a member of the Senegalese Army attached to the Nemanding Military Base, located about 10 kilometres from Amdalai border town.
Police further stated that the suspect told investigators the ammunition came into his possession following a change of guard at the military base.
He is currently in police custody while investigations continue.
The Gambia Police Force says it remains committed to strengthening efforts aimed at combating trans-border crimes and maintaining peace and security across the country.
