The Gambia has secured qualification for the 2nd African Beach Volleyball Youth Development Cup, with the national U18 girls team set to compete in the continental tournament scheduled for Dakar, Senegal.

The competition will run from 8 to 14 August 2026 in Dakar and is organised under the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) as part of efforts to strengthen youth beach volleyball development across the continent.

The upcoming edition follows the successful staging of the inaugural tournament in Banjul last year, where young African athletes showcased their talent on Gambian soil.

According to the CAVB, the Youth Development Cup also forms part of preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games scheduled for October, with participating athletes being closely assessed ahead of the global event.

The Gambian U18 girls beach volleyball team is among those being considered for selection for the Youth Olympic Games, reflecting the country’s growing progress in the sport’s development.

Their participation is expected to provide valuable international exposure and competitive experience against some of Africa’s strongest emerging beach volleyball talents.
