CTMC Petitions IEC Over Voter Register Irregularities

The Coalition Taskforce Mediation Committee (CTMC) has issued a formal petition to the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), raising concerns over alleged irregularities in the ongoing voter registration process.

The resolution was unanimously adopted by opposition political parties and movements represented at the CTMC’s 4th Strategic Session.

The petition outlines a series of concerns, including alleged duplicate registrations across multiple constituencies and the registration of underage individuals who were reportedly issued voter cards. It also cites the inclusion of non-citizens on the provisional voter roll, irregular voter transfers without proper documentation, and the omission of eligible voters despite valid attestation.

The coalition is calling for the full voter register to be made available by polling station for public inspection. It also urged the IEC to expand and publicize revision court sittings across all 53 constituencies, and to provide a binding timetable to complete all corrections by 30 August 2026.

Additionally, the CTMC is requesting the accreditation of its Election Watch team, alongside civil society observers, to monitor the entire process.

The petition stresses that safeguarding the integrity of the voter register is a constitutional issue rather than a partisan one, emphasizing the right of every Gambian to vote and have their vote accurately counted.
