Project Aid International on Wednesday presented 20 laptops to 18 institutions in Lower Badibou, North Bank Region.
The donation which was made through the organization’s board member and businessman, Lang Kemo Conteh, was distributed among institutions like Suwareh Kunda and Kinteh Kunda Janneh Ya Arabic Schools.
The presentation ceremony was held at the Governor’s Office in Kerewan, North Bank Region.
The donation is aimed at strengthening institutional capacity, improving record-keeping and enhancing data management and reporting systems within beneficiary institutions.
Speaking at the event, Governor Lamin Saidykhan commended the contribution of Lang Kemo Conteh to humanitarian and development initiatives in the region. He highlighted several projects attributed to the philanthropist, including the construction of a modern children’s ward and a borehole at Kerewan Health Centre, the Aja Bintou Day Care Nursery School in Kinteh Kunda Janneh Ya, as well as the construction of mosques across the region.
Governor Saidykhan urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the laptops to improve governance, documentation, and timely reporting.
Presenting the laptops on behalf of Lang Kemo Conteh, Project Manager Karamo K. Kinteh said the donation was intended to strengthen administrative systems in schools and institutions through improved record management and accountability. He reaffirmed the continued commitment of the philanthropist to supporting humanitarian services.
Project Aid International, a Gambian–German registered non-governmental organization (NGO), was established in the early 1990s to complement government efforts in delivering humanitarian support to rural communities. Since its inception in 1991, the organization has implemented projects in education, health, and agriculture.
The organization also operates a health center and a nursery school in Jahaly, which continue to provide services to rural communities. The health facility is noted for maintaining consistent availability of essential medicines.
As part of its interventions in health sector, Project Aid International, in collaboration with the German government constructed a model health centre in Njaba Kunda in 2011. The facility was handed over to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in 2012 and continues to serve residents of Njaba Kunda and surrounding communities in the North Bank Region.
Other speakers at the event included: Saloum Kinteh, Principal Education Officer at Regional Education Directorate Region 3 in Kerewan and Mustapha Sowe, Regional Police Commissioner for the North Bank Region. They both described the donation as timely and significant. They said the laptops would support record keeping, planning, communicating, among other things.
