Coaches in the North Bank Region (NBR) football league have raised concerns over a number of operational and technical challenges affecting the smooth running of the competition, calling for urgent reforms to improve standards and competitiveness.
The league, which plays a key role in nurturing young football talent in the region, is reportedly facing issues ranging from officiating inconsistencies to financial and logistical constraints.
During an engagement with stakeholders, coaches highlighted the quality of match balls as a major concern, noting that substandard equipment is negatively affecting gameplay and player performance.
Refereeing standards also came under criticism, with coaches citing inconsistent decision-making, lack of professionalism, and the need for enhanced training and supervision of match officials to ensure fairness and credibility.
They further expressed concern over the late arrival of referees and other match officials, as well as delays by some teams, a situation they said disrupts fixtures, affects scheduling, and undermines the organisation of the league.
Financial constraints were also identified as a major obstacle, with coaches noting limited community and stakeholder support, making it difficult for teams to acquire equipment and sustain participation throughout the season.
Other challenges raised included poor match coordination, inadequate logistics, and weak support systems for clubs and players.
Despite these difficulties, the coaches reaffirmed the importance of the regional league as a key platform for talent identification and development, providing young players with exposure and competitive experience.
They recommended improved match organisation and scheduling, strengthened training and monitoring of referees, provision of standard equipment, increased stakeholder support, and greater commitment to punctuality and professionalism by participating teams.
Meanwhile, attention is expected to shift to Friday’s programme, which will feature regional club presidents in discussions on team performance and the overall state of the league.
