The National Assembly Member for Banjul North, Hon. Modou Lamin B. Bah, has been elected Chairperson of the Network of African Parliamentary Committees of Health (NEAPACOH), placing The Gambia at the helm of the continental health oversight body.
His election was confirmed at the 17th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Network of African Parliamentary Committees of Health (NEAPACOH), held in Lusaka, Zambia, from Feb. 25 to 27, 2026.
The annual gathering brought together parliamentarians, committee staff, civil society actors and academic representatives from 26 African countries.
The conference was held under the theme: “Re-positioning the Role of Parliamentarians for Enhancing Health Systems for Emergency Response, Equity, Resilience and Sustainability in the Context of Attaining Universal Health Coverage (UHC).”
Deliberations focused on strengthening legislative action and parliamentary oversight to build responsive, resilient and sustainable health systems across Africa.
Leading The Gambia’s delegation, Hon. Bah outlined national progress and parliamentary commitments aimed at strengthening the country’s healthcare delivery system. He emphasized the importance of enhanced stakeholder engagement and collaboration to improve access to and quality of healthcare services.
Other members of the Gambian delegation included Nominated Member Hon. Kebba Lang Fofana, Hon. Omar Darboe, Member for Upper Nuimi, and Mrs. Sarata Bojang, Clerk to the Committee.
