The Gambia Action Party (GAP) has announced that its Secretary General, Musa Yali Bachilly, has been unanimously selected as the party’s flag bearer for the 2026 presidential election.

In a statement issued to the media, GAP said the decision followed broad consultations involving its national executive, regional coordinators, diaspora chapters, grassroots supporters and strategic partners.

According to the party, the declaration signals what it described as “a new chapter” in the country’s political trajectory, centred on truth, justice, accountability and transformational leadership.

GAP further claimed that Gambians had faced prolonged hardship, stagnation and governance challenges, adding that the country required leadership that understood citizens’ struggles and was prepared to address them.

The party described Bachilly as a candidate with a record of service and a vision for national renewal, stating that his leadership reflected commitment to the welfare of Gambians.

In its message to citizens, GAP says The Gambia “deserves better” and urges supporters to rally behind its political agenda, which it says aims to strengthen institutions, promote national unity and improve socio-economic conditions.

The party called on youths, women, elders, business owners, civil servants, farmers and members of the diaspora to support what it termed a national movement for transformation ahead of the elections.
