Five accused persons were yesterday remanded by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court after facing charges relating to assault and theft.
The accused, in the persons of Omar Saho, Alieu Mballow, Ousainou Camara, Hajie Conateh, and Yusupha Kebbeh were linked to three-count-charge which they continue to deny.
Prosecution Officer, Inspector Kebbeh told the court that the accused face three counts: common assault under Section 195, assault causing actual bodily harm under Section 196, and theft under Section 226 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.
According to the prosecution, on January 23, 2026, at Bakoteh in Kanifing Municipality, the accused allegedly assaulted Ebrima Corr by beating him with their hands. On the same day, they are accused of attacking Modou Lamin Jammeh, beating him and throwing stones, causing him actual bodily harm.
In addition, the prosecution said the five individuals stole a Techno Spark 9 mobile phone, valued at D7,000, belonging to Modou Lamin Jammeh.
When the charges were read to them in a local language, the accused confirmed that they understood the allegations but denied any wrongdoing, stating, “We did not do it and we deny the charges against us.”
Inspector Kebbeh, representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), requested an adjournment to summon a witness.
Presiding Magistrate Thomas Touray ordered the accused to be remanded at Mile II Central Prison until the next hearing. The matter was adjourned to Thursday, February 26, 2026.
