Ousainou Darboe, the leader of main opposition United Democratic Party (UDP), has stressed that no government can succeed without the trust and participation of its citizens.

In a statement shared with this medium on Monday, Darboe reaffirmed the UDP’s commitment to transparency and accountability, vowing to address the aspirations of the electorate.

“I speak to you at a moment that calls for honesty, unity, and resolve. Our nation has faced challenges before, and each time, we have emerged stronger because we chose courage over fear and cooperation over division,” he said.

Darboe described the country as undergoing a difficult period of change. “Some of it is uncertain. But all of it reminds us of who we are as a people: resilient, compassionate and determined to build a better future for the next generation,” he added.

He outlined his party’s plans to strengthen institutions, support communities, and protect the dignity and security of every citizen. “These efforts will take: time, patience, and shared responsibility. But they are necessary, and they are worth it,” he remarked.

Darboe assured that the UDP would continue to support families, workers, and small businesses, ensuring that opportunities were accessible to all citizens.

Meanwhile, the UDP Leader went on to urge Gambian youth to fight for the future, emphasizing that with courage and commitment, their aspirations can be realized. “To every citizen, regardless of background or belief, our diversity is our strength. When we stand together, there is no challenge we cannot overcome,” he stressed.

Darboe called on Gambians to move forward with “confidence, compassion, and a shared commitment to the common good,” noting that the nation is strongest when its people lift each other up.
