Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) on Tuesday paid an unannounced visit to inspect ongoing road construction works in Bakau Newtown.
The 1.53-kilometre road, which forms part of the Kanifing Municipal Council Road Network Project (KMRNP), runs from the Bakau Newtown Basiru Jawara Mosque to the GNPC–Marina intersection and features a T-shaped design.
The project falls under a D300 million infrastructure programme covering the construction of 11 roads spanning 15.4 kilometres, in addition to 5.9 kilometres of drainage systems. The works are being executed by Longain Road and Bridges Company Limited.
According to the council, the project is expected to ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and stimulate economic activities in the municipality.
The KMRNP is the largest infrastructure initiative undertaken by the KMC and is aimed at improving basic infrastructure, raising residents’ quality of life, and promoting sustainable urban development.
Mayor Bensouda’s visit underscores the council’s commitment to ensuring effective supervision and the timely completion of the project.
