Two men, Muhammed Ceesay and Saidou Sey were on Wednesday remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison having been linked to assault and theft charges.
The two appeared before Magistrate Kanjura B. Sambou of Brikama Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, assault, and stealing.
According to the police, the two accused allegedly conspired on 19 December 2025 at Lamen Market, West Coast Region, to commit theft. The first charge brought against them was conspiracy to commit a felony, contrary to Section 341 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.
The second count of the charges dealt with assault under Section 198 of the Criminal Offences Act and it stemmed from an incident where the accused allegedly grabbed the neck of one Fatoumatta Jaiteh with the intent to steal.
The third count was on stealing contrary to Section 226, and it alleged that the two men took cash amounting to GMD 3,500 and a ZTE A55 mobile phone valued at GMD 16,000, totaling GMD 19,500, belonging to Ms. Jaiteh.
The charge sheet was read in English and interpreted in Wolof, the language chosen by the accused, to ensure they fully understood the proceedings. Both men pleaded not guilty to all the three counts.
Prosecuting officer, Inspector EM Jallow, applied for an adjournment to proceed with witness testimony, noting that while the offenses were bailable, the court should deny bail. “The investigating officers are still searching for other co-accused who remained at large. Granting bail now could hinder the on-going investigation,” he told the court.
The case has been adjourned to 5th February 2026 for hearing to commence. Meanwhile, Ceesay and Sey will remain in custody at Mile 2 Central Prison pending the resumption of the case.
