Magistrate Isatou Mbaye-Sallah of the KanifingMagistrates’ Court has warned prosecutors against violating the rights of remand prisoners.
The Principal Magistrate issued a stern warning to prosecutors to avoid unnecessary adjournment of court cases when she was informed on Tuesday that accused persons could not be transported from the State Central prison to attend court proceedings. The prosecution said the vehicle that was supposed to bring the accused persons to court had a mechanical fault.
However, Magistrate Sallah emphasized that cases should not be adjourned without compelling reasons as that would be tantamount to a violation of the rights of the accused.
