The New Generation Movement, a non-political organization founded by Sheikh Sidia Bayo, over the weekend donated 18 bags of rice to three communities as part of its humanitarian support programme.

The donation was extended to the Pipeline Mosque Community, residents of Tanji, and some members of the Turn Table community. The initiative is part of the organization’s drive aimed at assisting vulnerable groups with food distribution, basic health support, and entrepreneurship development.

Speaking at the donation ceremony, Mr. Bayo said the gesture was intended to support the poor and alleviate hardship in communities. He explained that the movement operated under the initiative “Barrow La Nemo,” which he described as a people-centered, non-political programme focused on social support.

According to him, the initiative is independent and not directed by the government or the President, stressing that national development requires collective effort beyond government action.

“We believe development cannot be achieved by government alone. This initiative is driven by civic duty, solidarity, and compassion,” he said, calling on political actors to prioritize improving the living conditions of citizens.

Mr. Bayo further disclosed that the movement planned to extend similar support to rural areas, noting that communities in the provinces also require food and healthcare assistance. He urged Gambians at home and abroad to contribute to the initiative.

The Imam of Pipeline Mosque, Abdoulie Faye, commended the movement for the donation and highlighted the growing hardship faced by many citizens. He called on philanthropists and the government to intensify efforts to address poverty.

Imam Faye noted that the mosque was established to support the needy and emphasized the role of young people in national development, describing them as a majority of the population.

He expressed gratitude to the New Generation Movement for its contribution at a time when the country continues to face socio-economic challenges.
