The Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Yankuba Darboe, has expressed confidence that his institution will meet its 2025 revenue target of D23 billion by the end of November.

This, Mr. Darboe attributes to the success of the ongoing digital transformation within the authority.

Speaking on Wednesday at the opening of a sensitization workshop on the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) at African Princess Hotel, Darboe said the new digital platform will replace the outdated GAM TaxNet system to make tax processes simpler, faster, and more transparent.

“We want to make life easy for taxpayers. With ITAS, you can register, file returns, and make payments from the comfort of your home or office without visiting GRA offices,” he said, adding that the reform will enhance accountability and data accuracy while reducing human interference in tax administration.

The GRA boss explained that the authority’s consistent success in meeting annual revenue targets over the past decade is largely due to its push toward digitalization. “For the past ten years, we’ve been meeting our targets, and this year, by November, we expect to collect the D23 billion set for us by the Ministry of Finance,” he declared.

Deputy Commissioner General Essa Jallow, in his welcoming remarks, described the ITAS project as a milestone in building a taxpayer-centered system that prioritizes efficiency, fairness, and transparency. He said the system will reduce compliance costs and time spent by taxpayers while promoting voluntary compliance.

Delivering a statement on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, Alagie Jallow reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernizing tax administration under its broader public financial management reforms. “ITAS is not just a technological upgrade; it represents a transformational shift toward transparency and efficiency in revenue collection,” he said, commending GRA’s leadership for its proactive approach.

Project Manager Samba Jallow earlier noted that the ITAS initiative, supported by the World Bank through the Ministry of Finance, is designed to improve service delivery and ensure smoother interaction between taxpayers and administrators.

The one-day workshop brought together representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Women’s and Youth Chambers of Commerce, AmCham, and members of the business community to familiarize themselves with the upcoming system.
