A civil case involving prominent lawyer Amie Bensouda and former Secretary of the Janneh Commission, Alhaji Mamadi Kurang, came up yesterday before Justice Coker at the High Court of Bakau sitting in Banjul.

Counsel Combeh Gaye, representing the plaintiff, informed the court that two statements of claim have been filed in the matter. The defense, represented by Counsel A.J. Njie, indicated they would file their statement of defense by Monday.

Counsel Njie also disclosed the defense’s intention to submit an objection challenging the court’s jurisdiction in the case. In response to this development, Counsel Gaye stated that the plaintiff would await receipt of the objection before proceeding with further legal steps.

The proceedings were brief, with both legal teams outlining their immediate plans to the court. Justice Coker noted the positions of both parties before setting the next hearing date.

The case has been adjourned to November 17, 2025, at 11:30 AM.

The matter will return before the same court once the defense has filed its statement and jurisdictional objection, allowing both parties to present their arguments on the preliminary issues raised.
