FANG 2025 Lights Up the Gambia’s Cinematic Future

The Gambian film industry took center stage on Saturday, May 24, 2025, as the School of Journalism and Digital Media at the University of The Gambia hosted the inaugural Filmmakers and Actors Night in The Gambia (FANG 2025).

Organized by 69 Entertainment under the visionary leadership of Franklin Chika Adim, Vice President of the Film Producers Association of The Gambia, the event lived up to its theme: “Spotlight on The Gambia Film Industry.”

The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as actors, filmmakers, and cinema enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the vibrant and growing Gambian film landscape.

FANG 2025 was both a celebration of the present and a tribute to the past. The evening honored the memories of notable industry figures who have passed away, acknowledging their lasting contributions to Gambian cinema. Among those remembered were Fantah Kamara Smith (2015), Binta Fatty (2018), Aisha Jallow Jobe (2020), Cherno Njie (2020), Ebou Waggeh (2020), Foday Koroma Bangalie, Emmanuel Ugochukwu, Kweku Ampoe (all 2021), Ola T. Johnson, Batch Jajaun Ngom (2022), and Mohammed Eliman Touray (2024).

In addition to tributes, awards were presented to individuals and institutions for their exceptional contributions to the growth of the film industry. These honors reflected the passion and persistence driving the creative sector forward.

In his opening remarks, Franklin Chika Adim, Director of 69 Entertainment and Vice President of the Film Producers Association, expressed deep appreciation for all who attended the maiden edition of FANG. He paid heartfelt tribute to the fallen heroes of the industry and acknowledged the support of those who have championed the development of Gambian cinema.

Adim noted that while the industry is growing slowly, it is certainly moving in the right direction.

Also speaking at the event, Prince B.S. Sankanu, President of the Film Producers Association, congratulated 69 Entertainment on organizing what he called an “excellent initiative.” He highlighted the gradual progress of the film industry and encouraged potential investors to support its continued growth.

Prince Sankanu also thanked the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) for endorsing the event and announced that FANG will now be added to the national events calendar as an annual celebration.

Officially declaring the event open, Hassoum Ceesay, Director General of the NCAC, commended the organizers for their dedication in bringing the event to life. He encouraged them to remain focused and committed, noting the importance of such events in promoting and showcasing local talent.

Different activities were observed to mark the event.
