Hon. Yahya Sanyang, the National Assembly Member for Latrikunda Sabiji, has called on Gambians to vote President Adama Barrow out of office in the 2026 presidential election, arguing that the president’s own admission of not being well-informed about his government’s activities proves he is unfit to lead.
Sanyang, a seasoned lawyer and former National Assembly member, made the statement following Barrow’s recent national address, in which the president claimed to be unaware of updates regarding assets looted by ex-president Yahya Jammeh.
“If the president himself says he doesn’t know what’s happening in his government, that’s a clear sign of failure,” Sanyang said. “Such leadership cannot continue.”
He warned that Barrow’s lack of awareness creates room for unchecked corruption, mismanagement, and weak accountability. “It means no one is being held responsible, and decisions are being made based on half-truths,” he added.
Sanyang noted that this lack of control is not new, pointing to similar patterns among Barrow’s ministers who frequently appear unprepared before the National Assembly. “There is a clear breakdown in leadership. The chain of command is unclear, and the country is paying the price,” he pointed out.
He further cautioned that national security and economic development are under threat when a president is out of touch with the inner workings of his administration. “It’s not just about Jammeh’s assets. It’s about the everyday operations of government, Barrow is not in charge,” he stressed.
Hon. Sanyang called on Gambians to take action through the ballot box. “In 2026, we must vote President Barrow out,” he declared. “The country deserves informed, transparent, and responsible leadership, something this administration has failed to provide.”
