He, therefore, sentenced him to a mandatory jail term of one year and ordered him to pay a fine of D5,000, in default to serve six months custodial sentence. Mustapha was also ordered to pay a D20,000 compensation to the complainant failure of which, he would serve another six months in custody.
Narrating the facts of the matter, ASP O. Jammeh stated that on 11 October 2024, at around the hours of 17:00 came to the mobile shop of one Hamidou Bah at Serekunda Bartez on the pretext of buying an iphone 14 Pro Max valued at D60,000. ASP Jammeh further narrated that Bah showed the convict a phone that he checked and confirmed to be satisfied. He went on to state that Bah left Mustapha in the shop with his sales girl to perform ablution but upon his return, he realized that the Mustapha has disappeared with the phone.
According to ASP Jammeh, Bah launched a manhunt for Mustapha but he could not trace him and therefore, reverted to CCTV footage that captured the convict on the act of stealing.
