Foni Besse Village’s Grand Annual Gamo slated on 16th December

Alh. Momodou Lamin Jabbie, a prominent marabout in FoniBesse Village in the West Coast Region says all is set for their grand historical annual religious gathering ‘Gamo’ slated to run on 16th December 2023.

The yearly Gamo attracts thousands of people in the Gambia and beyond the country. He organizes a befitting Gamo in memory of his late father Alh. Kanjura Jabbie, the first Imam ratib of Besse Village.  

Alhajie Momodou Lamin Jabbie is the first male child of AlhajieKanjura Jabbie, the grand Khalifa of Foni Besse and he is also among the great Khalifas in the country and also among the pioneers of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council. 

Momodou Jabbi commonly known by many as ‘Duwa JabiMorro’ by his followers, assumed the throne of Khalifa General of Besse Morri Kunda in 1998 following the death of his father. Since then, he has been contributing immensely towards the development of the village and the district at large.

The marabout is indisputably a very dynamic person who has been impacting on the lives of the people not for popularity but for the sake of humanity.

His success in offering prayers which goes with Allah (God)’s blessing for many people is what earned him the name ‘DuwaJabi Morro’. For some years now, hundreds of people do gather in Besse village, every Friday to seek the blessing of the renowned marabout. 

He is currently the Imam Ratib of Besse village a mantle his father handled for decades; he is a naturally gifted philanthropist.  The imam has been supporting lot of community projects, schools, health facilities etc. A lot of people are said to have benefitted from his generosity and his humanity gestures.

Through his contributions towards the development of the country, he was certified by those who know him. For instance, in the year 2017, the Alkalo of Besse, Dembo Badjie presented a certificate of recommendation for paying village taxes and school fees for both Arabic and English students.

The district chief, Alhagie Junkung Camara, also certified him to recognize his tremendous efforts in the district.

In 2022, The Principal of Sutusinjang Basic Cycle School, Madam Mariama Sankareh certified him for his support to the school. 

He bought a borehole pumping machine costing D13, 000.00, and he also presented a cash amount of D10, 000 for the school development during the speech and price giving ceremony. Duwa Jabbi Morro also supported the school with an amount of D25, 000 during the Islamic Conference organized by the school.

He invites all Gambians including neighboring countries to attend the ‘gamo’ saying this year’s will be history.
