Concerned Gambians in U.K to Protest Against ‘Pressings Issues’ in Gambia

A UK-based group calling itself Concerned Gambians has vowed to take to the streets to protest against issues affecting Gambians back home.

The protest is planned to be held in the UK and the key demands include the resuscitation of the draft new constitution, the privatization of strategic national assets such as the Senegambia Bridge, the rule of law, and “endemic corruption”, The Voice gathered from the group.

It further revealed that “police intimidation, a third term for President Barrow, diaspora voting and extravagant spending of public money” will be part of issues that the group will be demonstrating against. 

The protest is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 19 October 2023, at the Gambian High Commission in the UK at 57 Kensington Court, London W8 5GD, while other protesters will be at the Nigerian High Commission at 9 Northumberland Avenue London WC2N 5BX, UK.

The planned protest will be extended to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at King Charles Street, London, SW1A 2AH, from 11 A.M to 3 P.M,consecutively.

The group is calling on all Gambians, residing in the UK and concerned about issues affecting Gambians to join them in the protest to showcase their concerns to the Gambia government and other relevant international organizations.

Speaking on behalf of the concerned Gambians in the UK on Tuesday, Mamanding Ceesay, said the group is apolitical and has no desire to cause trouble.

“It was through that we agreed to decide on the 19th of October to meet in three different locations in the United Kingdom for Gambians to converge with ease and peacefully to express their concerns over the situations in the country,” he said.
