Sanctity of National Assembly Must Be Safeguarded At All Times

The works and transport minister Ebrima Sillah is said to be the latest State minister to table motions before the Assembly without giving two hoots to procedures.

Legislators had to close business on Tuesday when it became apparent that the four motions that Sillah took to the Assembly for ratification were not accompanied with signed documents.

Some legislators said they were disappointed not only in Sillah but other ministers, they hinted, were desecrating the House through flagrant violations of the rules of engagement.

Indeed, it can be really frustrating when the House had to adjourn because ministers did not do the needful.

This has to stop!

Ministers should put their houses in order before appearing before legislators.

We were indeed perplexed by the transport minister’s decision for going to the House, knowing fully well that his motions did not fulfil the conditions for ratification. Is there more to it than we already knew?

Anyways, ministers need no reminder that they should, at any point in time, keep the sanctity of the National Assembly in tact.
