Foni Jarrol NAM Advocates for Arming of Security Officers

The NAM for Foni Jarrol, Kebba Toumanding Sanneh, has said all security officers should be armed and given the necessary tools to effectively execute their functions.

“The securities are poorly-armed. They are just there with mere sticks. They are not given mobility and they are not motivated. This is something I always voice out at the National Assembly, and is something that the government should look into. If the people that are supposed to protect us are not well-armed, what do you expect?” he stated.

NAM Sanneh explained that the shooting of police officers last Monday is an indication that the country’s security is poorly-equipped.

He pointed out that no-one should have any reason to be paranoid of the police as he blasted those, who described them((police) as criminals.

“If you are not a criminal, why the fear? You cannot assign someone to protect you when you don’t motivate them,” legislator Sanneh stressed.

Commenting on the security of his constituency, NAM Sanneh explained that the  only police station in the area is located at Kalagi and lamented that the station had no mobility and officers were struggling with poor allowances.

He pointed out that the station was in a poor state and it was only fenced through the contribution of the VDC. He also lamented that officers had complained to him that they were seriously challenged logistically and had to use their own money to attend court cases. The fares they paid to attend cases, he added, were not refunded. Sanneh said the police had to even buy uniforms for themselves.

On DLEAG, legislator Sanneh said since their job is fraught with dangers, operatives need to be armed “considering the amount of drugs coming into the country.”
