Ebrima Jambang convicts of assault causing actual bodily harm

Principal Magistrate Sallah Mbai of Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Thursday convicted and sentenced Ebrima Jambang to a fine of D10,000 for assault causing actual bodily harm with punishment for malicious injuries on Isatou Sanneh.

Magistrate Mbai said Ebrima was convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm contrary to section 228 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 Volume 3 of the Laws of The Gambia 2009 with punishment for malicious injuries in general contrary to section 312 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 Volume 3, Laws of The Gambia 2009.

The presiding magistrate Mbai went on that Ebrima was remorseful of the charges pressed against him and that he was a first offender.

However, Ebrima in his plea of mitigation apologized to IsatouSanneh and his husband and begged for mercy from the family of the victim.

He went on that the victim respected him so much and he pleaded to the court to show mercy to him.

Magistrate Sallah before delivering the judgment expressed that she was touched by the plea of the Ebrima and said that the court’s aim is not to destroy the relationship between people.

“I hereby sentenced Ebrima Jambang to a fine of D5000 on count one and D5000 on count two in default to serve three months imprisonment on each count with compensation of D5000 to Isatou Sanneh in default to serve three months imprisonment. The sentence shall run consecutively,” Magistrate Mbai ruled.
