UK-Based Gambian Remanded on Bail

By Nicholas Bass

A UK-based Gambian was on Wednesday apprehended and brought before the KanifingMagistrates’ Court where he was remanded on half-a-million Dalasi bail.

Lamin David Conteh and Abdoulie Jatta were locked in a legal tussle over a motor vehicle but the case was last Monday struck out by the court for lack of evidence.

Dissatisfied by this, Jatta instigated a civil suit against Conteh on the same day for the recovery of the vehicle.

Sub-Inspector Cherno B. Jallow, prosecuting told theKanifing Magistrates’ Court that on 31 July 2023, Lamin David Conteh paid the total money for theNissan vehicle to Jatta’s purported wife Mama Jallowand he said police investigators did confront Contehwith the facts of the alleged stolen vehicle of AbdoulieJatta.

Prosecutor Jallow also said that there was a preponderance of evidence to show that Lamin David Conteh paid the total sum for the vehicle to Mama Jallow.

However, Jatta’s counsel Malick HB. Jallow last Monday filed for D850,000 claim and costs from Conteh.

Jatta’s claim was supported by an eight-paragraph affidavit and the first paragraph of it declared that heowned the Nissan Pathfinder vehicle worth D500, 000,allegedly entrusted to the defendant, Lamin David Colley, sometime in 2019 for two weeks.

Meanwhile, an order of the Sheriff Division was on Wednesday executed and Lamin David Conteh was consequently apprehended and brought before magistrate E. J. Colley of Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, where he was granted D500, 000 bail to allow him gain his liberty, pending the hearing and determination of the case.
