GPF grants permit for a peaceful protest against deportation

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) on Thursday, 20th July 2023, granted a permit to the Strive for Gambia Concern Citizens to go ahead with their planned peaceful protest against the deportation of Gambians from European countries. 

The protest is slated to take place on Saturday, 22nd July 2023, from Jimpex using the Kanifing PIU Barracks feeder road to within 15 meters away from NAWEC Westfield, Kanifing, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

The permit which was received by the president of the Strive for Gambia Concern Citizens indicated that submission of the permit by the group is being granted to go ahead with their peaceful protest. 

“Your application (of permit) has been approved based on the following, that the protest is confined to the time scheduled given in this approved permit, that the protest is confined within the limits of the law, that no derogatory words or remarks should be addressed to any person that will eventually result to the breach of peace,” Police mentioned in the permit.

However, the rules in the permit further stated that, if the group fails to comply with these conditions it will results to the cancelation or revocation of the permit given to them or could even face criminal prosecution.
