Karamo Ceesay , the councilor of Tallinding South, and his Ward Development Committee have embarked on a site visit of the community-prone areas to access and have first-hand information about the flooded areas and the families affected by the flood due to the poor drainage system.

The Councilor and his team were on the ground working by using a bulldozer to remove obstructions from the drainage systems, clean drainages, and create waterways to mitigate flooding within the community through Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).

The exercise is meant to reduce the risk of disaster within the community of Tallinding South and its surroundings, without Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), no progress can be sustained.

According to the Councilor, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is and will always be on the top of his agenda, as he always embarks on such an exercise annually within the ward.

Councilor Ceesay during the period of the visit assured the residents of a better drainage system to mitigate flood.

Also speaking at the event, Saloum Sheriff Janko, an Anti -Littering Inspector at Kanifing Municipal Council who is also a member of the Tallinding Ward Development Committee, said Councilor Ceesay has hundreds of development plans for the people and the Gambian people at large.

According to Mr. Janko, the Councilor brought a lot of developments during his first term as councilor in a wide range of areas such as Health, Education, Environment, water, and Electricity supplies to certain remarkable areas.

On the issue of Anti -Littering, Mr. Janko called on the residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping especially in the sewages so that the water can flow during the rainy season, “indiscriminate dumping is against the law of the council’s Bye-Laws and is a chargeable offence.

There are more than 20 Mbalit Trucks collecting waste in all parts of the Kanifing at a very low price of D10 per bag compare to private waste collectors of D40-50 per bag.
