Vendors in the Brikama market pleaded for support from the Brikama Area Council as the rainy season began placing the situation of the market in a horrible situation.
Reaching out to The Voice newspaper, Fatou Sambou, narrated the difficulties she and other vendors always face in the rainy season.
She said one of the vendors has no space to sell her products instead she sells on the roadside of the market and when it rains the place is filled up with dirty water which is not good for her health.
‘’We that sell our goods outside, we need a good and conducive market to sell our products. It is not good especially now there is rain for us to continue selling at the roadside,” Fatou added.
Another vendor, Marian Mendy, said the condition of the market is horrible especially when it rains, adding that when it rains, the market is usually muddy and dirty and the dirty water underground will gush out hence there is no space for them to float out of the market.
“We sit inside the rain to sell and walk around in the market inside the dirty water even using an umbrella while selling during rain is not conducive because people are many and you will not be able to cover yourself and also cover the items you are selling. We need help, let the Brikama Area Council visit us in the market to see what we mean and explain,” she emotionally explained.
She went further that some of the customers will not want to enter the market. It is muddy and dirty, this is the reason she said they are appealing to the council for another place or to make it a conducive place for them to sell their goods.
“We are asking for help from the chairperson, Yankuba Darboe, to help build new markets and construct roads. Though he is doing his best to remove stagnant waters in the market, still we also need conducive and clear space to sell our products,” she said
