247 students graduate from AIUWA

At least Two Hundred and Forty-seven (247) Students last Saturday graduated from the American International University for West Africa (AIUWA).

The graduands include undergraduate degrees in BSN General Nursing, Midwifery, Anaesthesia, Doctor of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Technicians, BSC in Accounting and Finance, Business Administration, Computer Science and Technology, Human Resources and Labour Management, Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, Bijilo, Dinesh Shukla, Chancellor for AIUWA described lives after graduation as the most important for all the graduands. He called on the outgoing students to work and maintain professionalism anywhere they found themselves.

He enjoined them to support their parents, friends, family, and the poor and so doing this would offer them blessings. 

This achievement, he said, happened as a result of the immense support of The Gambia Government and her people, while he commended all and sundry for supporting AIUWA since its inception in the country.

Professor Makie Taal, the Vice-Chancellor of AIUWA noted that the university is an approved and accredited institution of higher learning by the government of The Gambia.

The current activities at AIUWA, Professor Taal, added, since the university’s last graduation in June 2022 they have registered lots of valuable and productive developments.

Stating that academic programmes include restructuring – academic programs have been conducted and are still ongoing by all Departments and Faculties. “As part of our programme accreditation process, we have finalized the review of our Medical Curriculum in the alignment of recommendations set forth by the Michical and Donal Counel, The Gambia whilst ensuring compliance With USMLE (United States Medical Licensure Exams) and West Africa Health Organization (WAHO) harmonized curricula for the West Africa sub-region during 2022,” he explained 

However, he said this has given their graduates the added advantage of working all over Africa, the United States of America, and beyond. Since the last graduation, also, they have expanded their faculty by recruiting additional professors and lecturers from various colleges.

 He added that these positive trends need to be maintained to accommodate staff movements and the advancement of students to higher years coupled with the introduction of new pragrammes across all colleges in the University.

Baba Barrow, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Gambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (GICA) expressed appreciation to AIUWA for their professional admission of students while thanking the educational institution for giving the requisite skills and knowledge to Gambian youth.

Speaking further, he advised the graduands to continue furthering their education in order to have more qualifications.
