UDP Leader Challenges NPP for Vis-à-vis Debate

By Mustapha Jarju

Leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Lawyer Ousainou Darboe has challenged the National People`s Party to have a vis-à-vis debate with the United Democratic Party on ideas.

Speaking to the media after the nomination of the UDP`s Kanifing Municipal Council Mayoral candidate, Mayor Talib Bensouda, Hon Darboe said, “I challenge them to come forward, let us debate on ideas, I heard them (the NPP) speech on foolish responsibilities but let them come we face each other, we will prove to them that anything that they are saying is not true.”

He added that Gambians have now realized that the NPP did not believe in the UDP but they only used the UDP as a ladder to get to where they want, arguing that they will remove the ladder from them so that if they want to come down they fall and their leg break.

“The 2 years that the UDP had in the government of President Adama Barrow, the yellow party in the government at the time took part in the making process of the National Development Plan (NDP) and was able to get a pledge of $1.7 billion at a conference which was attended by himself (Ousainou Darboe) and Amadou Sanneh the former Finance Minister in Paris.

He continued: “We were quickly able to get euro 50,000,000.00 within a matter of 24 hours we bring that for the Gambia, to develop our country, after when we left (the government) in March (2019) the National Development Plan we made they (the current) cannot run it”, Darboe said.
