The Governor’s Office in North Bank Region is intensifying on creating public awareness on the significance of maintaining peace and stability ahead of the local government election.
The Governor on this mission was accompanied by his Deputy Dembo Samateh to hold a meeting that targeted all the seven districts in the region, while the meeting was attended by Alkalolou, youths, and women in the region.
The initiative aimed to foster and consolidate existing peace and security in the region as there is a need to respect the rule of law.
Governor Lamin Saidykhan spoke on the importance of the meetings saying it is fundamental to discuss key issues with alkalolou on the peaceful election, bushfire, land rental, and transhumance animals’ issues.
The Governor reiterated that government is very much committed to promoting and strengthening democracy, good governance, and respect for rule of law.
He noted that alkalolu plays a very important role in traditional administration and therefore peace and security are key, noting that the constitution guarantees all political parties and independent candidates to hold meetings in every community.
Deputy Governor Dembo Samateh called on district authorities to be proactive and support the implementation of government programs and policies. He noted that his office would provide all necessary support to enhance all-inclusive participation in national development.
Chief Fabala Fadia Kinteh of Lower Badibou hailed the Governor for his leadership role in promoting unity and understanding with alkalolu. He assured of the district authority’s fullest support towards peaceful local government election.
Various speakers thanked the Governor and his deputy for their foresight, as their efforts contribute to the maintenance of law and order. The issue of transhumance animals on the environment dominated meetings in Sabach Sanjal, Upper, Central, and Lower Badibou, as they chopped down branches of trees for animal feed.
It was agreed with the Governor that all issues relating to illegal logging and cutting down of branches should be reported on time for action.
Baimundaw Drammeh alkalo Taiba Jabel Satou and Ali Bah alkalo of Mbamori Kunda of Lower Badibou thanked the government for the payment of allowances to alkalolou. The duo noted all efforts should be done to address bushfires and encroachment of cattle tracks.
