The state’s second witness, Yaya Manjang, a marabout and Islamic Teacher yesterday made an astounding revelation in the ongoing treason trial involving five military officers and a police officer.

Revealing a chilling testimony before Justice Basioru VP Mahoney of the high court in Banjul in a jammed-pack courtroom, the witness revealed that the police Sub-inspector Fabakary Jawara has visited his home with Mustapha Jabbi last year asking for a spiritual guidance to overthrow President Adama Barrow in order to salvage the country from the hardship and poor living conditions.

According to him, on their second return on the following day, he declined to offer them his prayers but advised them to give out bitter kola nuts as charity to seven mosques and also slaughter a white goat.

Marabout Manjang further told the court that he also advised Mr. Jawara to travel to Guinea-Conakry, Touba in Senegal and Mauritania to seek prayers if he desired for the coup to succeed.

”I was arrested on a Friday and taken to Brikama Police Station where I was detained before  taken to Banjulinding Village Anti-Crime Center where they took me to the Headquarters of  National Intelligence Agency at Banjul for questioning  regarding the foil  coup plot,” the witness told a jammed-pack courtroom. The case was adjourned to February 21st for continuation of hearing.
