Gambia U-20 team accorded arousing welcome by Scorpions fans

The Gambia U-20 team were given an arousing welcome back at home by the Scorpions fans in the Banjul terminal on Friday club following their fantastic performance in the just concluded West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone A championship in Mauritania.

The Young Scorpions side (Gambia U-20) finished as runners-up in the tournament after being defeated 1-0 by the Young Lions of Teranga (Senegal U-20) during the final played at the Cheikha Ould Boidiya Stadium last weekend.

The Gambian side under the leadership of Coach Abdoulie Bojang had a very good run in the run in the tournament, but being defeated twice by the eventual champions, Senegal.

The Gambia defeated Cape Verde 2-0 in their first match, whipped Liberia 4 -1 in their second match, drew their third match against Guinea and got beaten by Senegal in their fourth and final Group B match.

The U-20 boys knocked Mali out in the semi-finals before being defeated by the champions Senegal in the final. Champions Senegal beat The Gambia twice with the same score-line in both their final group game and the final.
