Louis Moses Mendy, Permanent Secretary Mendy Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MOBSE), has revealed that MOBSE will eradicate double shifts by 2030 admitting Poor WAEC results.
He made the remarks at a press briefing on Friday in his office in Banjul, where he also refuted claims making rounds on social media describing this year’s WASSCE results to be considered one of the worst results ever.
He told journalists that the earlier results published online came at a time when 1468 pending results were not presented by WAEC in their analysis at the time.
A statistical report on this year’s WASSCE results was leaked and went viral on social media platforms(Facebook/Whatsapp), a few days before the official report from WASSCE thus attracting derogatory comments from the public.
Describing what they called “clearing the air on the misinformation about the 2022 WASSCE exams results, the Ministry retorted that the information making rounds on social media concerning this year’s results is premature, inaccurate, and did not present the true and fair picture of the results.
He stressed that part of that 1458 pending WASSCE results is yet to be assessed by WAEC.
PS Mendy also noted that part of the confirmed results sent by WACE contains some students emerging with six, seven, eight, and nine credits respectively.
He pointed out that unfortunately, these results were not captured in the analysis that has been circulating.
“The number of students who got five credits and above, including English and Maths, has increased from 605 students to 716 students at the moment. The Ministry is still waiting on the final results from WAEC,” he disclosed
Mr. Adama Jimba Jobe deputy permanent secretary said that there were a lot of problems and distortion of misinformation about the 2022 results on the social media platforms.
According to him, the act was done out of ignorance, revealing that the entire WASSCE results are yet to be released by the relevant authorities (WAEC).
Asked why the results were not sent on time and as a whole, he replied in the affirmative to say why some schools did not send in their Continuous Assessment test Scores (CAS marks) to WAEC and that they might have sent in their marks adding that WAEC needed to standardize these marks especially if they are out of proportion as in a case where a school gives all students very high (CAS marks).
“In such cases, WAEC assesses these (CAS marks) to make sure that students are not given marks they do not deserve or worked for.”
