Gambian player’s summer transfer dossier

By Baboucarr Fallaboweh

A club record signing for Dembo Darboe & Lamin Jarju was among the most significant transfers to Gambian players abroad as the duo moved to Al Hilal & AL Nasr SC, respectively.

Assan Cesay’s move has brought the Gambian’s tally, who has played in the Serie A, to five despite Musa Barrow being linked with a move away from Bologna.

Senegalese Ligue1 has raided the Gambia again, with Jaaraf signing Omar Faye. They already have in their ranks Modou Manneh.

Bernard Syla will join CasaSports after the U20 tournament, whiles Wallidan midfielder Kebba Sambou has signed a two-year loan deal with Teungueth FC.

Danish Superliga & Nordic Bet Liga have gotten two new exciting signings in Yankuba Minteh and midfielder Hamza Barry.

Foday Darboe, who has made his debut already for Paide against Anderlecht leads a host of Gambian talents to begin their professional contracts together with the likes of Lamin Jarju (Hawks) and Ebrima Gibba.

Modou Lamin Marong has also signed in Angola, and his former coach maintains he will shine.

“He is a tall striker, a young player who has lots of advantages, the coach can improve him, if he has the players behind him, he can score more than ten goals,” Steve Biko coach Adnan Musa stressed on Modou Lamin Marong switch to Angola.

Gambian football agent Modou Lamin Beyai rounded up the transfer insight.

“The influx of Gambian players going to Senegal is not bad, because some of them didn’t have a chance to be snapped by European clubs not based on talent but age because most of these clubs like signing players between 17-20 years old,” Beyai revealed.

“Bernard Sylva, I think CasaSports signed him to replace Lamin Jarju. We all know CasaSports like Gambian players. With his talent and qualities, I hope he can quickly settle in Casa and become a fan favorite and take the next step just like Lamin Jarju.”

‘Hamza Barry from La Galaxy II to Vejle was a big shock and surprise. I was expecting him to stay and play in the MLS. It’s a great chance to revive his career; the second tier is competitive; he needs that competition, and if he feels like they can give him that competition. I am 100% sure he can have a good season there and then move to another European team, Asia, or the middle. Most players start in the Scandinavian and rise through the ranks and take the next step.”

“Yankuba Minteh, he is a testament to our work; everybody knows that the Danish league is the best in Scandinavia. Odense is one of the oldest clubs in Denmark. So it’s good for him. He can play in the Bundesliga or any top five leagues.”

“If you see I am taking players to Estonia, it’s not that the players cannot start in any European team. But, of course, their talent is there. But the idea is to give them first-team football experience in a league or a group where they will play week in and week out, have good numbers, and take the next step.

The players in Estonia are just beginning their careers and always have a good start; I would rather see a player start from the bottom and work hard and go up the ladder rather than join a top team and boom, you are not playing; your confidence is down, and you are in the U19 and ended up losing your value. I am just giving an example”.

We are waiting for the transfer of the Gambian international trio, Bubacarr Gaye, Yusupha Bobb, and Bubacarr Sanneh. The Gambians have had a pretty busy summer transfer so far.
